The town of Oldham sits in the Penine Hills, eight miles north-east of Manchester and despite the industrial revolution today almost two-thirds of the Borough remains glorious countryside. With its 140 years of market history, Tomyfield Market in Oldham is the place to do some shopping where you can find anything you want at its large indoor and outdoor market stalls.

For the more culturally minded, check out the Oldham Coliseum Theatre or go to the Oldham Cultural Quarter and enjoy the Oldham Gallery where you can find a huge display of public art which you can enjoy free of charge.

Sir Winston Churchill began his political career in Oldham and the town has an impressive and modern Civic Centre. There is also a good heritage trail around the town where you can discover the considerable remains of Victorian architecture.
